Introduction
The Vijaya Ganapathy Temple is located in Ullagaram near St.Thomas Mount,
one of the southern suburban of Chennai (formerly Madras) , Tamilnadu. The Temple
was constructed with the Holy Blessings of Sri ChandraSekhara Saraswathi MahaSwamigal
in the year 1976. The temple site which was originally a local playground was given for the
residents of the colony by the original owner of the land. The residents felt a dire need for
a temple at those times as the nearest temple was about several miles far then. Today,
the nearby areas have very the famous hindu temples of South India.

The temple rose in a day amidst the resistance from many forces who wanted
the place to be used for other purposes. The pious residents of the colony acted swiftly to
get hold of the land and sanctify it with an idol of lord Ganesha. The official confirmation
came from the Kamakoti Peetam of Kanchipuram a few days later sanctifying the Lord's name
as Vijaya Ganapathy. The sanctum chose to be in the same state until 1984.
